Description:
Kioko is about 3 1/2 - 4 years old and about 75 pounds. We were told at the animal shelter that she is half lab and half rottweiler. She is up to date on her shots and we can provide her vet records. She is in good health and has only had one incident that scared us. This involved her balance. We had tests done and follow up vet care and it was believed to be a benign occurrence involving her ears. We do have all the vet records showing this and will talk with anyone about the details.

Kioko's name is Japanese - meaning Happy Child. She likes to lean against legs and put her head in laps. I have never seen her be dog aggressive. Generally she loves to play with other dogs - very enthusiastically. She does know, however, to play outside and not to do that indoors.

As far as people go, children scare her a little, but she has never tried to bite - she will sit under the table and grumble to herself, though. I have had the opportunity to see her cornered by children who came to visit. They followed her under the table where she was hiding and she just cowered back but let herself be rubbed. She eventually got around to tentatively licking their fingers. So in my opinion, it is more of a fear issue than a hostile issue. We think she may have been abused before we got her. She cowers when things like brooms or sticks are picked up and tries to hide. She is Much better about this now but still nervous. She is protective of her house and people and if someone knocks on the door she will bark and do her fierce dog act. Otherwise she is a fairly quiet dog and very trusting of those she knows well.

She LOVES tug of war but not fetch. She also Loves to run outside and play with other dogs. She will sit at the storm door for hours, just looking outside (see picture). She has a great desire to catch any squirrel that comes into the back yard although she generally isn't very successful. She also loves her dog treats and will sit and wait for one to be tossed to her. She enjoys having pieces of dog food rolled across the floor so she can try to catch them as well.

Kioko is house-trained, non-destructive, and used to staying indoors most of the time. She loves having a rug or dog bed to lay on. She also loves the plain Nylabones to chew on but doesn't really care for squeaky toys. She likes to flop over on her back and stare at you or poke you with her paws until her tummy is rubbed. She is used to only a few brands of food (she throws up with cheaper dog food). We will send along a bag of her dogfood when she is adopted. Though she loves canned food, we only give her dry and she is fine with that.

She blends into the background easily. She does not Demand attention and if there are other pushier dogs around she will not fight for attention. She likes her quiet time when she can just lay on her rug and snooze. She seems very versatile - eager for activity but content to be calm and indoors as well. I don't know how she would do with cats. Since she likes to chase small animals she may view cats the same way. However, that isn't to say she can't learn.

She is NOT allowed to roam off-leash or outside a fenced in yard. She doesn't understand cars and when she got loose once, she ran out in the road and stood there looking confused before I could get her back in. She MUST be kept on a leash or inside a fence.

She is a wonderful dog. We love her. We are having to move to an apartment that only allows two dogs so we Must find a good home for her soon. We want her to find a Very Good home. We would like to meet anyone who is seriously considering adopting her. We also request a $75 adoption fee. We will donate the money to the charity of your choice - we are only asking the fee to help rule out fraud/dangerous situations for Kioko. We have more pictures of her if needed.
